Meet The Children's Ministry Staff!

Sherry Ju | sju@fbceg.org | ext. 115
Children's Ministries Director

Upon graduating from CSUS with a BS in Biology, Sherry started her full-time career in the Medical Laboratory field until the birth of her first son, Brandon. She then became a stay-at-home mom, working part-time in the Fitness Industry, until she listened to God’s call upon her life to serve in Children’s Ministry at First Baptist Church August 2006.

Sherry has been married since May 1986 to Steve, who works as an E-mail Administrator for the State of California and is blessed with two great sons, Brandon and Adam. The Ju family loves First Baptist Church and has been attending since 2001. Sherry and her family also love being in God’s great outdoors-their vacations usually include camping, hiking, biking, snorkeling, skiing or any other outdoor sport you can imagine.

What people don’t know about Sherry (and probably don’t care):
She is adventurous-she’ll try just about anything once.
She loves power tools and isn’t afraid to use them.
Favorite Games: Bunco, Yahtzee & computer Scrabble (Steve & the boys refuse to play with her because they never win.)
Favorite TV shows: HGTV programs and Trading Spaces
Favorite foods: almost all kinds, except fish/sea creatures, chicken feet and Fear Factor-type foods.
Interests: home decorating/improvement, gardening, scrapbooking and fitness.

Sherry’s desire is that each and every child who attends FBC would develop a deep yearning to know God more and to seek His guidance and will for their life, just as she does.

Jocelyn Castillo | jcastillo@fbceg.org | ext. 107
Administrative Assistant

For the past few years, I have had the privilege of serving in FBC Children’s Ministries. My job as an administrative assistant is a combination of fun and challenging tasks. I am behind the scenes, working on creative details that help this team connect with our FBC children and their families. I love that I can be apart of God’s masterful plan – seeing families grow in Christ with conviction, courage, and faith. My family and I have attended FBC since 2001 and we’ve seen the many positive things that God has blessed upon this church and the community. He has blessed me with my husband Roy of 14 years and two boys, Aaron and Jadon. Raising children isn’t easy, so I’m glad that I can be surrounded by God’s great support team - people who have the same parallel beliefs as I do.

Dawn Storm | stormdd3@aol.com
Nursery Coordinator

Hi, my name is Dawn Storm. I have been married to my husband Dick since July 1984. We are very blessed to have a daughter, Amberly.

I am the Nursery Coordinator in Children’s Ministry. What I love about my ministry is that I get to meet new families all the time. This is the forefront to raising children in church. I am a full-time teacher in Elk Grove. My passion is children. And I feel very blessed to be able to be around children on a weekly basis. We love FBC and God has grown our family in many ways at FBC.

If you are new to our church and have a baby, please get in touch with me so I can get you and your family connected in our baby ministry. I would love to help in anyway I can.

Our family enjoys snow skiing, swimming, sewing, bike riding, traveling, camping, and of course girl shopping!!

Jeanne Plants | jplants@fbceg.org
Early Elementary (4yrs. - Kindergarten) Coordinator

My name is Jeanne Plants and I am so excited to be joining the FBC Children’s Ministry staff. I have worked at FBC Preschool for 5 years. I have also been involved in both Jr. High and Sr. High school ministries in the past. Recently I have been able to help out with Saturday night children’s church and have really enjoyed it. I am looking forward to this new adventure and how God will be using me in the lives of the children of First Baptist. My prayer is that God will be honored and glorified and that I will be used as a servant to help build His kingdom.

I am married for nearly 6 years to Brandon Plants a wonderful man of God. My husband played a big part in introducing me to the Lord and showing me how much love God has for me and how he died for my sins so I can live with him eternally. Our son Shawn is three years old and full of energy. He keeps us laughing and is very active and full of life.

Now you know a little bit about me, my family, and my walk with the Lord. I can’t wait to meet you and learn more about you and your family.

Ellie Pond | epond@fbceg.org
Early Elementary (1st-2nd Grade) Coordinator

My name is Ellie Pond and I love being on the FBC Children's Ministry staff. I especially love working with the 1st and 2nd graders. They are truly the "Light of the World"!

I was born and raised in Vallejo, California, where I accepted Christ at age 14. I have served in Children's Ministry for the last 16 years and have a passion for teaching children about God's word and His love for them.

I have been blessed with 2 wonderful children who love the Lord. Stephanie is in high school and is taller than me. Matthew is 12 and received a unicycle for Christmas. He almost has the hang of riding it.

I am a graduate of CSU Sacramento in Communication Studies and we have lived in Elk Grove since 1993.

Denise Huft | dhuft@fbceg.org
Middle Elementary (3rd-4th Grade) Coordinator

Hi, my name is Denise Huft. I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Mark, for 26 years. God has blessed us with three uniquely wonderful children. Ryan is 22. He attends Sac State and has just been the fourth generation of our family to get married at our church! We are so happy to have a new daughter, Helyna! Alissa is 19. She also attends college and Nathan is 16 and a sophomore at Jim Elliot High School. I have attended FBC all my life. I accepted the Lord at a young age at a Good News Club that my mom helped with. I have learned by example that you not only attend a church but you need to serve in it as well. My aunt and my mom always worked with children in children’s church and had me helping at a young age. I loved it! I have been involved with children ever since.

Children are a special gift and blessing from the Lord. They are fun, creative, loving, and exciting. There is never a dull moment in Children’s Ministry! We have a challenging task as we battle this world for the souls of our children. We want to partner with you and help lead these little ones to the Lord. It is an honor and a privilege to be working with you and your children.

Amy Goudreau | agoudreau@fbceg.org
Upper Elementary (5th-6th Grade) Coordinator & 56 club Coordinator

Hi.  My name is Amy Goudreau.  I am so excited to be joining the Children’s Ministry staff at FBCEG.  I grew up in Wisconsin, in a believing family that was active in our church.  My best memories are of my church youth group both in the spiritual growth I had from in-depth Bible studies and missions trips, to the fun we had at camp and weekend outings.  I look forward to coming alongside the parents of our 5th & 6th graders to encourage and support His kids growth in the faith and trust in Jesus Christ our Lord.

I am married to my best friend, Mike, we just celebrated 15 years of marriage.  He is loving and supportive and a TON of fun!  Mike loves working with kids, when he isn’t helping me out in Route 56, he’s coaching one of our sons sport teams.

God has given Mike and I three amazing boys.  Mychael is 11 and in 6th grade, Myles is 9 and in 4th grade and Mason is 7 and in 2nd grade.  They bring us much joy, love and laughter, along with a few gray hairs! Our family loves adventure and we’ve run into some pretty interesting pickles through the years!  Through all of our experiences, God has been good.  We also like to play in the ocean, especially in Myrtle Beach, S.C.  Baseball is HUGE in our house, well anything that involves a ball is pretty popular.  We even tried our racquets at tennis this summer.

We have incredible activities for our 5th and 6th graders at FBC that will help our kids grow and develop in their faith.  The Word of God is being ‘taught’ and ‘caught’ in our Route 56 and 56 Blowout.  I look forward to meeting you and working with my sisters and brothers at FBC.  If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, please send me an email – agoudreau@fbceg.org

Jennifer Sandlin | jsandlin@fbceg.org
AWANA Commander

Jerry and Jennifer Sandlin are the Awana Commanders here at First Baptist Church. The Sandlins have been involved in Awana for a combined 35 years. They appreciate the Awana combination of exciting Game Time to bring kids in, the small group Handbook Time to build relationships between kids and their leaders, and the large group Council Time to cement God’s truths. Most importantly, they love to see the children memorizing scripture and applying it to their lives using the Awana handbooks.

With diverse backgrounds, the Sandlins bring their own unique gifts to children’s ministry. Having grown up through divorce and blended families, Jerry has a special compassion for those kids growing up through difficult situations. On the other hand, Jennifer’s childhood in a Christian family gives her insight and helps her see the distinct needs of kids who grow up in the church.

Jerry and Jennifer met in 1986 at the singles ministry of Crossroads Bible Church in San Jose. They have been married for 19 years and have four children, Mike (16), Shelby (15), Tyler (12), and Ashley (11). In addition to his ministry as Awana commander, Jerry is a financial consultant for USBank and a painting contractor. Jennifer is blessed to be a stay-at-home mom, homeschooling their three younger children.
