Worship & Arts - Music Ministries

Objective – Connecting with the Servants of God (Servants to God)
To create a loving, spiritual environment which serves to encourage, train and mentor those whom God has given a passion for ministry through the art, through Community, Authenticity, Variety, Excellence and Prayer.

“For we are God’s workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works which He prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10)

With all that is going on at FBCEG, there are plenty of musical groups for you to choose from:

Vocal Music Ministries
The Vocal Music Ministry is the largest group of devoted musicians that FBCEG has to offer. From beginning singers to well-seasoned professionals, FBCEG offers many different areas of service.

The Sanctuary Choir rehearses on Tuesday evenings and sings a variety of music in primarily our Traditions worship service. You don’t have to be a well-seasoned vocalist to join, and classes are available throughout the year to enhance your musical knowledge of theory and musicianship. In addition to our regular Sunday services, the choir provides an opportunity for involvement in our seasonal productions, such as “Traditions: a Christmas Celebration,” our Annual Celebration, and the Holy Week Activities, as well as other outreach opportunities throughout the year to benefit the community.

The Praise Bands employ a variety of singers to assist in leading worship at each of the contemporary services, which include the Saturday Night Casual Vocal Team and the Worship Center Vocal Team. Each group sings a variety of contemporary worship repertoire, including Israel Houghton, Hillsongs, Travis Cottrell, Tommy Walker and Chris Tomlin. Rehearsals are on Sunday mornings.

n addition, FBC employs a variety of auditioned Vocal Ensembles, such as quartets for both men and women, small groups for special events and Soloists. Each group meets at different times throughout the week and leads in weekend services about once each month.

Comprised of children 4 years old through 1st grade, The Cherub Choir meets once a week, on Sunday evenings, with a goal of developing spiritual, social, emotional, and musical and worship foundations.

Possessing similar objectives as the Cherubs, the FBC Kids, a choir for their older brothers and sisters, meets at the same time as the Cherubs on Sunday evenings. The group is regularly made up of eighty-plus 2nd through 6th graders who enjoy leading worship and presenting seasonal musicals.

The Youth Choir is an ongoing ministry for students in the 7th through 12th Grades. In addition, both junior high and high school students find opportunities to use their voices by participating in worship bands within their respective departments. Throughout the life of the church, our students are finding places to use their singing in the service of the Lord.

Come Join Us
The Sanctuary Choir is open to all those with a heart for worship. Any one of our choirs may be joined by simply participating faithfully in the appropriate rehearsals. Ensembles and Soloists are selected by audition. Those interested in joining one of our exciting vocal groups are encouraged to contact Bill Maxon through the Worship and Arts Ministry office at (916) 685-4821, ext. 118 or by email.

Vocal Teams for contemporary worship are open by audition only. Auditions are held bi-yearly, or by contacting Jeff Carnie through the Worship and Arts Ministry Office at (916) 685-4821, ext 129 or via email.

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC MINISTRIES
Instrumental Musicians have the opportunity to participate in the service of our Lord through a variety of groups.

The FBC Orchestra serves as the foundation of our instrumental program. Meeting weekly for rehearsal, the group accompanies worship at least once each month. In addition, they are an indispensable part of most every major musical production or major church emphasis.

Blossoming at different times from the orchestra are several instrumental opportunities, including Brass or Woodwind Ensembles, Trumpet Trios, etc. Each of these groups rehearses on an as-needed basis, some more regularly than others, and leads in worship as opportunities permit.

The Praise Ringers is a group made up of devoted individuals who work together with English Hand Bells. Music reading in both clefs is a must. The group meets weekly and leads in worship about once each month.

Those desiring to play in an instrumental group should be able to perform at an advanced level (Junior in High School at Minimum), and may set a time for audition by contacting Bill Maxon in the Worship & Arts Office at ext 118 or via email.

Praise Bands are auditioned groups that serve as significant worship leaders throughout FBCEG. In addition to a revolving group of talented vocalists, Worship Teams are generally comprised of one or two guitarists, a bass player, a drummer, a keyboard player, and, on occasion, woodwind or brass instrumentalists. Weekly rehearsals are held and each group usually plays. In addition, many opportunities are available for teams through out our college, youth and children’s ministries.

Each player must have the ability to sight-read music proficiently and be able to work well within a contemporary rhythm section. The individual must play with solid time and with the appropriate feel for the various contemporary styles used. Guitarists must have the ability to create cutting-edge contemporary sounds utilizing the proper effects and have the ability to adapt to new sounds as requested by the music director.

The praise bands are open by audition only, which is held bi-yearly. Individuals interested in this ministry should contact Jeff Carnie through the Worship and Arts Office at ext. 129. ADMINISTRATION VOLUNTEERS
Coordinating the work of more than 500 individuals involved in the Worship & Arts Ministry is a monumental task. Volunteers are often needed for organizing everything from music to props, instruments to addresses. The Music Library contains literally thousands of volumes and cataloguing is a constant process. Individuals with computer data entry skills are highly prized. Copying, filing, stacking and sorting are all sizeable tasks in this department, and volunteers are constantly needed!
