Mariposa/Yosemite Spring Adventure
This two day journey will acquaint us with the scenic little town of Mariposa, one of the gateway communities to Yosemite National Park. On Tuesday, we will arrive in Mariposa about noon to enjoy lunch at one of several places close to our centrally located lodge. Following lunch, our bus driver will take us to two special venues on the edge of town. Returning in mid-afternoon, you may choose to shop, grab a coffee, visit the Mariposa History Museum, see the Courthouse (oldest operating courthouse west of the Mississippi) and/or just take a snooze. All of these places are within easy walking distance of your lodge. At 6pm we will enjoy a tasty hosted multi-course dinner.
After about a 75 minute bus ride on Wednesday, April 30, we will arrive in magnificent Yosemite National Park for an outdoor box lunch near Yosemite Falls, and visits several locations around the park including the famous and historic Ahwahnee Hotel (great gift shop!). After several hours of visiting this world treasure, we will depart for Elk Grove for our scenic return ride, arriving in Elk Grove around 6pm.
Visit the Encore Kiosk at FBC for an informational flyer with full details.
Visitation Ministry is very rewarding and perhaps the most direct one-on-one ministry opportuinty in the body of Christ. Our hope is to love on those folks who are sometimes forgotten, like shut-ins, or those who could use an extra touch of care, like those who are hospitalized. We invite you to join our team.Participation is open to ALL AGES. By a simple half hour visit, you can bring good cheer, a word of hope and a touch of love to someone who needs that encouragement. VIPS (Volunteers in Pastoral Service)
This is a new ministry of FBC, inaugurated on July 1, 2011, which creates a ministry role for a person who has been ordained, who has ministerial experience, who is a member of FBC, who is available to serve in a volunteer capacity, and who has completed the interview process and has been appointed to VIPS by Pastor Jason Whalen. Current appointees are: Dale Talley, Harry Gritzke, Stan Hagstrom and Ralph Silva. The “VIPS” ministry functions under the supervision of Pastor Charles Gaines and the umbrella of Encore ministries, however, it is not limited in its ministry scope to only Encore ministries. VIPS are here to assist all departments of the church. Some areas of ministry that our current VIPS are especially equipped to help with are: teaching, discipleship training, mentoring, prayer, visitation, pastoral outreach to shut-ins, counseling, peacemaking/reconciliation, missions, and small group leadership. If you have been ordained and have previously served in a church and would like to get more information on serving as a member of the VIPS ministry please contact Pastor Gaines x116 or Claudia Paige x100.
