                                                                      - Jeremiah 29:13

Key Question: What do I believe about Jesus?

As a Spiritual Explorer, you may be:

  • Skeptical about Christianity, but interested in exploring questions of faith.

case-for-christThe Case for Christ: A Journalist’s Personal Investigation of the Evidence for Jesus
by Lee Strobel

A seasoned journalist chases down the biggest story in history--is there credible evidence that Jesus of Nazareth really is the son of god? Strobel, former legal editor of the Chicago Tribune, cross-examines a dozen experts and challenges them with questions like: How reliable is the New Testament? Does evidence for Jesus exist outside the Bible? Is there any reason to believe the resurrection was an actual event? Strobel’s tough, point-blank questions make this Gold Medallion-winning book read like a captivating, fastpaced novel. But it’s not fi ction. It’s a riveting quest for the truth about history’s most compelling fi gure. What will your verdict be in The Case for Christ?

Steve Altman (Secretary) - Steve and his wife Lori have been married for 24 years and have 4 children, three of whom are currently in college. They have been members of FBC for 12 years. As a civil engineer he has been used to help build many physical structures. As a husband, a dad and a servant of Jesus Christ he has been used by the Lord to help build up the spiritual lives of those around him. He and Lori have been active in many children’s and high school ministries, including Awana, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and have taught parenting classes. He served as a deacon for 10 years at a former church, five of them as head deacon. Steve has a servant’s heart and is a great encourager.

sbeckner

Steve Beckner - Steve is a sixth grade teacher working in the Elk Grove Unified School District. He has been a part of our church for 37 years, and his wife, Kristen, has been with our church for 40 years. Their hope, as a family, for our church is that our body of believers at FBC would be fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ and live in obedience to Deuteronomy 6:5 which says, "Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength." They pray our devotion to God causes each of us to live our lives to further the kingdom of God, whatever it takes.

boyd

Darin Boyd - Darin, his wife Afton, and their two children Aston and Alex have been with our church for 39 years. Darin is a business manager who enjoys baseball, golf, and sports ministry. He hopes that the FBC Campus and family can serve our entire congregation and the community, bringing us all toward the likeness of Christ.

Currently, Darin is a member of our Property Committee.

crump

Bob Crump (Vice-Chairman) - Bob and Lynette Crump have been part of FBC for 25 years. They have three children (Drake, Dalton, and Denae) and have recently added to their family through Drake’s marriage to new daughter-in-law Sylvia. Bob’s hope for our church is that we will prayerfully seek God's will in the stewardship of the resources and gifts He has given us, that we may passionately serve our community, our country, and our world, and that it be evident we do these things as living evidence of the love of Jesus.

Currently, Bob is a member of our HR Committee.

S-Hansen Headshot Scott Hansen (Senior Pastor) - Scott Hansen took a long and crazy journey to get to where he is now. He was born and raised in California. His pre-college days included becoming an Eagle Scout, traveling Europe a couple of times in a pop music group, and singing in a rock band. By the end of his senior year in high school, Scott lost his oldest brother in a tragic car accident. It was this family crisis that eventually led Scott to begin secretly reading the Bible and coming to know Jesus Christ in a direct, personal way.

Scott writes: “Once I had this encounter with the Living God and realized that Jesus Christ was really there to forgive me, love me, support me and lead me... once I fully grasped that I was not alone in this world... there was no turning back for me.” This was in 1978, and about six months later, Scott moved to Fresno. While working through his Business Administration Degree at Fresno State, he began began cutting his teeth in various areas of ministry like music, evangelism, discipleship and leadership.

Scott’s actual call into ministry came in 1982, and the next year he began three-years of seminary, followed by 18 years of service as a missionary in Europe. While in Europe, he and his wife Michelle started a brand new church in Faenza, Italy before launching two other big ministries: teaching Bible seminars throughout Italy and developing an evangelistic music ministry, recording 5 CDs of contemporary Christian music (four in Italian, one in English), performed hundreds of concerts, had his music on the radio for years, and traveled as a music evangelist in over a dozen nations, including Turkey and Tunisia.

lopez

Rob Lopez – Rob Lopez has been attending FBC for the past 32 years. Rob has been married to his wife, Cindy, for 28 years. They have four children; two are adults and the younger two boys are still at home. He is a skilled plumber and loves sports. Working with children of all ages has been a big part of Rob’s life. Rob and his wife have been foster parents to many children over the years and also served in FBC’s Youth Ministries for 19 years. Now Rob is teaching third and fourth graders in Children’s Ministries.
Ron-Mann-Photo Ron Mann - Ron accepted Jesus as his Savior when he was a young child and began a close relationship with Christ at that point. Ron says, “I have a true faith that no matter what is going on in our lives, or those around us, that God is in control and ultimately has the best in mind for everyone.” He has a heart for God and FBC and is anxious to begin serving the congregation as an Elder. Ron, and his wife Kari, have been married for 21 years. They began attending FBC in 2002 and then became members in 2004. They have three children, Alicia, Lauren and Kyle. He and his family serve the church in many ways (ushering, women’s ministry, men’s ministry, youth ministry).

maxon

Bill Maxon - Pastor Bill Maxon and his wife Dawn have been part of our church for 12 years. Initially Bill served as the Worship & Arts Pastor, his lifelong area of ministry; however, just over two years ago, Bill (and the church’s leadership) sensed God’s voice in a new direction for his life, so he stepped into the role of Executive Pastor. Dawn teaches Advanced Placement English Literature at Franklin High School, where she loves her 11th and 12th grade students. Although empty nesters now, they have two sons, Devin and Chad, who were a part of FBC for many years. Both recently married.  Devin, and his wife Brooke, live in Santa Paula, and Chad, and his wife Taylor, live in Sparks, Nevada. Oftentimes you will see Bill in the 8:00 service where he loves to lead others in worship of God and desires to see FBC become a people so connected to the Spirit of God, that they don’t just survive, but that they thrive in their faith, making a joyful contribution of change to Elk Grove and to the world.

otto

Mike Otto (Elder Chair)  - Mike, his wife Vicki, and three children (Jessica Charney, Jared and Jillian Otto) have been with our church since 1989. Mike is the owner of Clinical Health Appraisals. He finds enjoyment in tennis and golf and simply through being with his family. One hope he has for FBC is that we would continue to grow in Christian maturity and love for God and His creations.

Darrell-Photo

Darrell Schuh - Darrell and his wife Darlene have been married for 52 years and have 4 children, all of whom have followed in their spiritual footsteps. He has a very rich spiritual heritage. Darrell has been a member of First Baptist Church for 61 years. He is very passionate about missions. As a contractor he has organized and led more than 50 short term mission trips to Africa and other destinations where he and the “Schuh Crew” have constructed a variety of buildings that have helped churches grow and serve their communities. In addition, he has served at FBC in many, many capacities over the years, including three decades as a leader for our youth and 6 times as a deacon. Darrell has been a role model for generations of men, some who are presently serving as Elders.

wagner

Chris Wagner - Chris Wagner and his wife, Young, have been attending FBC for 7 years and have been members almost 4 years. Chris and Young have been married 17 years. They have three children, Bella, Noah, and Abby. Chris works at Intel as a team leader and has worked there for the past 18 years. Finances

First Baptist Church of Elk Grove was founded in 1922 and incorporated in 1953 as a nonprofit organization in the State of California. Throughout the history of our church being good and faithful stewards of all donations entrusted to us has been a primary goal.

Our Constitution, Elder Manuals and Committee manuals detail some of the policies and procedures we follow in regard to our finances. Financial reports are presented to the congregation during the Annual Business meeting; the Elder Board reviews the church’s overall financial health quarterly; the Finance Committee reviews the church’s Financial Statements monthly; and the Chief Financial Officer/Business Administrator manages the finances and accounting on a daily basis. In addition, we have an annual “Audit Review” conducted by the accounting firm of Thompson & Noble. We strive to follow the best accounting and reporting practices of non-profit industry.

Because we are a non-profit organization, we are careful to follow those laws and guidelines which pertain to us as a corporation within the United States. Although we are ultimately accountable to God and must always make sure that we put no other law above His law, our leadership has not found any reason to conscientiously break any law or guideline imposed by our government.

Send us an email if you have a question.
