Child Dedication
First Baptist Church believes the Bible teaches that baptism is only for those who have trusted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior at the age of accountability (Acts 16: 30-33), and therefore do not baptize babies.
However, periodically throughout the year during Sunday services we do provide opportunities for your infant/toddler/young child to be dedicated to the Lord. It is a time when you as parents present yourselves to the Lord and commit to bring your child up in the “Nurture and admonition of the Lord” (Eph. 6:4). This dedication is also an indication of your desire for your child to one day make a personal decision to trust Jesus Christ and to follow the Lord in a life of service.
If you would like to dedicate your child, please contact Worship & Arts Ministry by email: sstillwell@fbceg.org or phone: 685-4821 ext. 118.
Side Step
Side Step Salvation/Baptism Class for kids is typically offered 4 weeks and 2 weeks prior to a Baptism Service. The purpose of this class is to help your child understand more about what salvation and baptism mean and to prepare him/her for the Baptism Service. As part of this class, we also talk about writing a testimony and what to expect on the day of the baptism. A parent/guardian must attend this class along with the child. The class is most appropriate for 2nd – 6th grade students, however it is not exclusive to this age group. Taking “Side Step” is required for baptism and will help identify if your child is ready for baptism.
Contact our Baptism Service Coordinator, Karen Nowlan by phone: 685-4821 x109 or by email knowlan@fbceg.org to get on the baptism schedule and to sign up for “Side Step.”
